Chiropractic care is one of the most popular alternative treatments for herniated or bulging discs. There are a variety of causes of herniated discs but commonly repetitive movements like lifting or bending, sports-related activities, or physical trauma such as a fall or car accident.
Symptoms usually originate at the herniation site and can include but aren’t limited to back pain, neck pain, stiffness, tenderness in the spine, and arm pain.
A common technique chiropractors use to treat a herniated, or bulging disc is the flexion-distraction technique. This technique is used to help address the symptoms that accompany a herniated disc and involves a specialized table that gently stretches “distracts” the spine providing relief to the compressed area. Alignwell Chiropractic utilizes this technique, and if you suspect you have herniated disc, don’t hesitate to contact us!

Scoliosis most commonly occurs before puberty during a growth spurt (ages 10-15 years old) and affects 2-3 percent of the population (an estimated 6-9 million people) in the United States.
Chiropractic care is a safe, non-invasive approach to helping relieve pain and discomfort associated with scoliosis. Chiropractic adjustments reduce joint restrictions/misalignments in the spine and in other joints in the body to help reduce inflammation and improve the function of the affected joint and nervous system.
To see if chiropractic care is right for your condition, Dr. James Pitarys will perform a consultation, examination, and take x-rays, if necessary. Based on these findings, a personalized treatment plan will be created.
To be real, I don’t really like talking about myself, but I know this is an excellent opportunity to e-meet, so here’s a little bit about myself… I’m Dr. James, and one thing about me is I am devoted to continually learning and innovating so that I can bring my patients the latest treatment methods and the best possible results. One of my greatest joys is seeing my patients overcome their physical limitations and ultimately function at their best. This is exactly why I became a chiropractor and why Alignwell Chiropractic & Movement was developed.
The unique thing about our office is our ability to scientifically assess spinal alignment through state-of-the-art methods. I use a combination of digital x-ray, postural analysis, and a 3D motion capture functional movement assessment (Kinetisense) to help me pinpoint the root cause of each person’s pain and symptoms.
Reality is, when it comes to musculoskeletal pain, there is almost always an underlying cause that can be boiled down to alignment and/or dysfunctional movement patterns. Once the cause is identified, I partner with my patients based on their goals and lifestyle to develop a comprehensive custom program to give them the best possible results.
Now, for my professional journey… I started my chiropractic path by receiving my undergrad at the University of New Hampshire. After graduating, I received my doctorate at the University of Western States in Portland, Oregon. A couple years into practice, I became certified in Clinical Biomechanics of Posture. This gave me an even more in-depth understanding of correcting spinal mis-alignments as well as correcting more complex issues like scoliosis.
Another thing about me is, I love working with athletes. I have worked with athletes of all ranges of skill levels, including professionals.
Lastly, one thing many do not realize about me is I struggled with being overweight for many years. As a result, my wife Bryana and I created a program called Let’s Eat For Life. I have been teaching this program techniques for the past five years, which has led to hundreds of people losing weight and getting off medications. My goal is to see thousands transformed by this way of eating!

Dr. James Pitarys DC will provide a comprehensive spinal analysis which includes a posture examination (to see overall patterns of misalignment), a palpation examination (to feel position of vertebra) and an in-depth x-ray analysis of the spine which allows us to look at individual vertebral displacement, disc spaces, curve and angle measurement, the contour and density of the vertebra, and the presence of disease and degeneration at your first appointment. Dr. Pitarys will go over these findings in precise detail with you and compare them to accepted norms. Then, a corrective treatment regime is prescribed which includes Mirror-Image® adjustments of the spine, traction, and exercises to help correct spinal abnormalities, prevent future problems and relieve pain. Home exercises and stretches are also recommended to provide the best results.
Whether you’ve never worked out in your life, are a frequent gym goer, or an elite athlete, functional strength training is foundational to increasing performance. The more efficiently your body can work together, the better you will be able to perform whatever task is at hand.
Any equipment needed to perform our functional training exercises will be provided as part of the comprehensive program.
Functional training involves compound movements (using multiple muscle groups) that re-create every day movements like lifting, bending, squatting, pushing pulling, twisting to help you correct muscle imbalances, get out of pain, reduce risk of injury, and improve balance, flexibility and strength.
